Amid the recent tragedies, James Corden will still be in London this week for his anticipated special edition of “The Late Late Show.” To acknowledge the lives lost this past weekend, he filmed the opening to Tuesday night’s episode a mile away from where the terrorist attacks took place.
The introduction was a last minute change, as Corden and crew had been in London prepping for the week before seven people were killed and nearly 50 injured on London Bridge and in Borough Market Saturday night. In the touching opening, Corden walks toward Central Hall Westminster, where the show will be shot, saying he’s “proud to show off [London’s] beauty, its diversity, and its stoic British determination to let nothing or anybody stand in our way.”
“Some people might say it’s a strange time to do a variety show from this city,” he says. “I couldn’t disagree more.”
The 38-year-old London native goes on to explain that the national election for the prime minister is only days away, and it will be a showcase of democracy terrorists will surely hate. But Corden knows Londoners are resilient and unafraid, which is why he’s set to deliver “the silliest, stupidest, most fun-packed shows we’ve ever made for you to celebrate London and Britain and everything it has to offer.”
The special London edition of “The Late Late Show,” which was announced in April, is scheduled to air starting Tuesday night. Corden’s special guests include Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise and Kit Harington. Plus, he will host a highly anticipated segment of “Carpool Karaoke” with Ed Sheeran.
