Art imitating art imitating art? That's the rabbit hole actor and porn star James Deen could be falling as he was offered the lead role in a XXX parody of "The Canyons," which already looks like a porn parody of "The Canyons."

TMZ broke this news after obtaining an offer letter sent by Vivid Entertainment head Steve Hirsch to Deen.

"It would be a first in parodies ... the actual star of a mainstream movie also starring in the X-rated version of the same movie! How cool is that?" wrote Hirsch. The offer to Deen includes the opportunity to direct as well.

According to Hirsch, Vivid has a list of "hot women" for Deen to "consider for the Lindsay Lohan role."

Written by Bret Easton Ellis and directed by Paul Schrader, "The Canyons" is a real movie and not a spoof, despite what the trailers and gossip would have you believe. Deen, known for his work in the adult entertainment industry, stars in "The Canyons" as Christian, "the boy next door ... gone bad." Lohan plays his love interest, Tara, described in one of the trailers as "sweet as sin."

"This is not an adult film," Deen told Animal NY last year. "We are not trying to arouse people. If someone does get aroused, well, it happens. [...] It’s not graphic sex for the sake of graphic sex. In the script you don’t see anything like, ‘You see [Lindsay's character] turn around and flash her boobs!'"

For a low-budget indie film, much has been written about "The Canyons." That has to do with the presence of Lohan, who was fired and rehired from the film after causing some problems on the set. (If you haven't read the lengthy New York Times profile on the making of "The Canyons," correct that error immediately.)
