The family of a U.S. journalist spoke out on Tuesday's "Today" show after their son went missing in Syria more than one month ago.
Foley, a freelance journalist, went missing on Thanksgiving day. His parents spoke out during a press conference last week, attempting to plea with their son's captors. Foley's family appeared on the "Today" show in another attempt to appeal to his captors for Foley's release.
Foley's mother, Diane, and brother, Michael, spoke with Savannah Guthrie. Last month, Guthrie interviewed NBC News' Richard Engel, who was freed from capture in Syria after being kidnapped for a number of days.
"There were some eyewitness accounts. They were taken by some armed gunmen. But beyond that, we don't have a lot of information," Michael said. This is not the first time Foley has gone missing while reporting abroad. Foley was also kidnapped while reporting in Libya and went missing for 30 days, but his family stressed the difference between the two situations.
"But he was sighted [in Libya]. We have not even seen him. No one was witnessed him since he was kidnapped. It's very different that way. We don't know who is holding him and we really need to hear from Jim," Diane said.
