New York Times Reporter James Risen Shares The Terrorism Statistic You Won't Hear On Network News

The 'Shocking' Terrorism Statistic 'You Would Never Hear' On Network News

The fear of terrorism has hung over the United States like a dark cloud in the 13 years since 9/11, but New York Times reporter James Risen says the tone of panic that often pervades the news media and the speeches of politicians is not in line with reality.

During a conversation with HuffPost Live's Alyona Minkovski, Risen shared a statistic he reported in his book, Pay Any Price: Greed, Power, and Endless War, that he said proves terrorism "is not an existential threat to the United States."

"It's a shocking statistic. You would never hear this on CNN or the networks," Risen said.

Watch Risen explain his problem with Americans' concerns about terrorism in the video above, and catch the full HuffPost Live conversation here.
