The 'Jane The Virgin' Cast Dishes On Season 2

The show's creator and stars open up about the show's sophomore season.

The first season of "Jane The Virgin" ended with many unsettling questions. Why did Sin Rostro kidnap Jane and Rafael's newborn baby, Mateo? What is Petra planning to do with Rafael's second sperm sample? Will Jane give Michael a second chance or will she choose Rafael? And what are Rogelio and Xiomara going to do about their accidental Las Vegas wedding?

The answers to all of those questions will undoubtedly be answered once the CW series returns on Monday, Oct. 12, but that doesn't mean the "Jane The Virgin" cast can't tease a few things about the show's sophomore season before then.

During a visit to the show's Los Angeles set in August, Executive Producer Jennie Urman and seven cast members spoke to The Huffington Post about what they're excited to see happen in season two. Take a look at what they said below:

I’m excited for everybody to see all of the surprises that we have in store, like Petra’s got a really twisted and fun and emotional arc this year.

We have some really good twists and turns with Rogelio [too]... He decides to move on to his passion project after “Passions of Santos” ends, and I think his passion project is surprising and will bring us some more comedy.

I want to see Jane be even more fearless and strong. I want to see the relationship that develops between her and Michael and Rafael -- and seeing how she navigates through that as something that we can motivate others to do.

And you know, let’s be real, maybe she needs a third love interest. Where’s Adam Rodriguez when you need him? You know what I’m saying? Maybe a little Diego Boneta?

(Editor's Note: After we spoke to the actress, it was announced that Adam Rodriguez would guest star as Jane's writing teacher in the series. Coincidence? We'll leave that up to you.)

I know I’m going to make some key decisions when it comes to my singing career and a key decision when it comes to my relationship with Rogelio.

[With Rogelio] the only thing I can picture is being together or being apart, so I wouldn’t mind doing both. I mean why can’t Xo get a lover and kind of discover a new relationship? And then why can’t she be in a truly loving relationship and really get her needs fulfilled and not be used and abused, and all that other jazz? I hope the best for Xo because she deserves it.
  • Justin Baldoni, "Rafael Solano"
I think it’s a very exciting potential storyline for Petra to be pregnant. We know <a href="http://www.tvguide.com/news

I think it’s a very exciting potential storyline for Petra to be pregnant. We know Jane is going to marry one of us, we don’t know which one. Obviously if Rafael and Jane get married and Petra is having the baby that’s going to be a huge conflict for him. So I’m excited to play a lot of different layers this year and build on last year.
  • Brett Dier, "Michael Cordero"

Well, I hope that Michael just does Michael -- I hope he finds some kind of happiness because I know he’s had a really tough year and a bit.

I hope he catches Sin Rostro and solves a lot of other problems along the way. I do know that this season is going be really intense for Michael and his job. So whatever that means, give me a lot of it.

As an actor, I hope that Michael gets to go undercover as different characters. That’s what I want. That would be a lot of fun -- wigs, different costumes and pretending to be people.
  • Yael Grobglas, "Petra Andel"

I’m hoping Petra is going to have more friends. She’s had all these strange relationships with men and the only person she can talk to is her mother. So I really just hope she has a couple of friends, somebody to talk to.

She is the villain of the show but she’s not typical, she’s not black and white, she’s definitely a very multi-layered character. And I think one of Jennie [Urman]’s goals is that you never know if you’re going to love her or hate her. You never know what’s coming. And one thing that Jennie always says is that Petra is the hero of her own story, she’s just looking after what she thinks she needs to do.

If Petra does get pregnant, I’m just excited to see what kind of mother she’s going to be. Because it could go two ways, she could either be what you expect Petra as a villain to be, kind of a cold mother, or it could turn out to flip her personality completely and she could become this lioness, defensive, wonderful mother. Which I think would be very interesting.
  • Ivonne Coll, "Alba Villanueva"
I hope that my character, and I’m sure that it will be so, will be dealing with <a href="https://www.huffpost.com/entry

I hope that my character, and I’m sure that it will be so, will be dealing with more of my immigration situation given the climate right now in the country.

And also I would like to know how I got here. What happened when I got here? My struggles? My marriage? I know I’m going to be open to love -- that’s what they told me -- but I don’t know if it’s with the priest (played by Cheech Marin)?
  • Jenna Ortega, "Young Jane"

I’m just excited and I’m looking forward to seeing if Jane gets less obsessive and she’s more calm and settled -- because all the stress that’s put on her right now, I feel like that’s not going to help the baby a lot. So I’m just hoping that she figures out how to maintain her cool.

"Jane The Virgin" premieres Oct. 12 at 9 p.m. on The CW.
