Janet Mock, Transgender Activist And Writer, Opens Up About Her New Book 'Redefining Realness'

WATCH: Brilliant Trans Icon Janet Mock Gets Personal

With the release of her book " Redefining Realness" slated for tomorrow, transgender icon and activist Janet Mock is opening up about her life and the journey that led her to publishing her first memoir.

We absolutely LOVE Mock and her work as an activist, especially her viral campaign #girlslikeus that seeks to bring visibility to issues affecting the transgender community, particularly transgender women of color. In an effort to contextualize her work as a trans activist and the experiences that led her to writing "Redefining Realness," Mock has released a six-part video series about her life.

"What does it mean to grow up and discover yourself when you don't have many resources, and where does that lead you? These are the questions and the things I hope to shed light on within my book," Mock shares in the first video of this six-part series. "Through my own story and emotional experience I hope that it empowers other young girls to know first off that they're not alone -- and that it's not bizarre and they're not the first ones to have been there."

Check out one of our favorite videos from this series about the problematic nature of "passing" above and head over to Mock's website to view the rest. "Redefining Realness" will be available tomorrow on Kindle and in stores.
