Janusz Kopycinski Facing 7 Years In Prison For Cursing And Spitting At Daley, Evading Police

Man Faces 7 Years In Prison For Cursing At Daley

A Chicago man who police say yelled "F*** the mayor" at former Mayor Richard M. Daley, then spat in the mayor's general direction, is now facing prison time for the incident.

Police say Janusz Kopycinski shouted and spit at the former mayor as he walked out of his office on May 13, 2011, then fled when police requested identification. While pursuing him on foot, one officer was reportedly grazed by a CTA bus, receiving minor abrasions that elevated charges against Kopycinski from a misdemeanor resisting arrest charge to felony counts of aggravated battery and resisting arrest.

Kopycinski was convicted of both charges Wednesday, and could face up to seven years in prison at his sentencing hearing May 24, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The charges against Kopycinski were given added weight in light of his 2007 arrest for battery to police, CBS Chicago reports. The officer injured in the May 2011 chase was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his injuries were deemed not life-threatening.
