Jared Allen, Vikings DE, Gets Bloody Nose During Fight With Buccaneers' Donald Penn (VIDEO)

WATCH: Donald Penn Gives Jared Allen A Bloody Nose

A brief fight broke out during the third quarter of Thursday night's matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, resulting in Minnesota defensive end Jared Allen walking away with both a bloody nose and a revenge sack.

Allen took issue with some rough blocking by Tampa Bay offensive tackle Donald Penn, who continued to push Allen after knocking him down, USA Today notes. The skirmish sent Allen's helmet flying, cutting his face and causing blood to drip from the bridge of his nose.

Both players received penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Revenge was served hot, however, with Allen blowing right past Penn to sack Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman on the very next play. Though Allen threw his hands up in celebration, his triumph was short-lived, as the Vikings ultimately suffered a disappointing 36-17 loss to the Bucs.

"It's an embarrassing game for us," Allen said in a post-game interview posted on NFL.com. "One thing about this game, it'll humble you week in and week out."

Both Allen and Penn downplayed the fight after the game, attributing the it to the inherently aggressive nature of the game.

"I play to the whistle," Penn said. "It got a little chippy. That's football. We shook hands after the game like we're supposed to and we have mutual respect for each other. That's the game."

Despite any feelings of mutual respect, Penn was unwilling to concede that Allen beat him on his sack of Freeman, chalking the play up to good fortune.

"He got a lucky one on me. That’s all right," Penn told the Tampa Bay Times. "I’d rather take a victory than a shutout anyway."
