Jared Leto Covers Empire As The Joker In All His Creepy Glory

The Joker may be a "psycho killer," but who knew he would be this fashionable?

Up until now, fans have only caught glimpses of the Batman baddie from the upcoming film "Suicide Squad." Director David Ayers released the first official image of the supervillain in April and the film's Comic Con trailer gave us a brief (and terrifying) peek of what the Joker had in store.

The cover and photos from Empire magazine's latest issue were released online on Monday and give us the best look at Jared Leto's take on the demented character. Most notably, Leto's Joker ditches the character's traditional suit for a purple alligator skin-like coat that looks like something Prince would envy.

In the accompanying interview, Leto, who never broke character during filming, revealed what it was like to embody a character with some deep psychological issues.

"There was definitely a period of ... detachment," Leto shared with Empire. "I took a pretty deep dive. But this was a unique opportunity and I couldn't imagine doing it another way. It was fun, playing those psychological games. But at the same time it was very painful, like giving birth out of my prick hole."

"Suicide Squad" hits theaters Aug. 5, 2016.
