Jason Chaffetz: Obama Impeachment Still 'Within The Realm Of Possibilities' (VIDEO)

GOP Rep Continues To Float Obama Threat

As calls for President Barack Obama's impeachment continue to circulate from Republican voices, one Congressman stands by that possibility.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) appeared on Tuesday's edition of CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer," addressing his suggestion that Obama face that stiff a penalty.

“Look, it’s not something I’m seeking," Chaffetz said. "It’s not the endgame. It’s not what we’re playing for. I was simply asked: 'is that within the realm of possibilities?' And I would say ‘yes.’ I'm not willing to take that off the table."

Chaffetz's comments paralleled remarks he made in Monday's edition of the Salt Lake Tribune. He stressed to the newspaper that this is "not the goal" but was "not taking it off the table."

"That’s not the goal but given the continued lies perpetrated by this administration, I don’t know where it’s going to go," Chaffetz said.

Other members of the Republican Party see impeachment as too severe an option. Appearing on Sunday's edition of ABC's "This Week," Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) urged caution in levying that type of idea.

"With all due respect, I think this is a serious issue," McCain said, "I will even give the president the benefit of the doubt on some of these things. We need a select committee."
