Jason Mraz Waiting For Gay Marriage

Jason Mraz Wants Gay Marriage

Jason Mraz told Tristan Prettyman 'I'm Yours,' but he won't say "I do," for perhaps quite a while.

Mraz, who popped the question to Prettyman right before Christmas, told attendees of the Concert to Benefit the American Foundation for Equal Rights on Wednesday that he won't walk down the aisle until everyone can -- including gay couples.

"We both feel that in our engagement, we have a union that's really special and cant be broken. It's a sacred bond," he told the audience (via Us Weekly). "The wedding would be nice for our family, our friends, our community -- our moms especially -- and so it puts us in the fight. We can't get married until [gay] marriage is legal and equal... I think giving people the right to marry will be a huge movement in civil rights."

Mraz wasn't the only singer to speak out at the benefit in a big way. Elton John announced that he supported gay marriage, a reversal of sorts from his 2009 statement in which he said that he was satisfied with his civil union with partner David Furnish, and said, "F**k you," to marriage equality opponents.

Mraz has taken political stances before, working in June with Free The Slaves to shine a light on modern slavery.
