The Washington Post released a video on Tuesday showing newly freed journalist Jason Rezaian laughing at a Farsi-language comedy sketch with his wife, Yeganeh Salehi.
Rezaian, 39, was one of three Iranian-Americans released from a prison in Tehran over the weekend after the U.S. and Iran spent 14 months on diplomatic negotiations that coincided with talks over the nuclear deal.
He had been held for 545 days in Evin Prison, which made news previously for its inhumane conditions and mistreatment of detainees, including many political prisoners. Rezaian is currently in Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a U.S. military hospital in Germany. Doctors say recovery in similar cases has taken months or even years.
Despite the prognosis, Washington Post editors Martin Baron and Douglas Jehl said Rezaian “looked good” when they met with him.
