Olympic Skater Comes Out In A Beautiful Instagram Photo

Spain's Javier Raya says he feels like "the luckiest person in the world."

Spanish Olympian Javier Raya has come out as gay by sharing an adorable photo of him kissing his boyfriend on Instagram.

Alongside the May 23 image, the 25-year-old figure skater, who competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, wrote, “Many of you know, others can imagine by the pictures and others will be surprised, but I have to say that right now I feel like the luckiest person in the world! Thank you @nicholsondrew.”

According to the post, Raya's boyfriend is Andrew Alan Nicholson, a Ph.D. candidate in neuroscience at Western University in Ontario, Canada.

Raya's decision to open up about his sexuality publicly coincides with that of another Spanish athlete. Water polo player Victor Gutiérrez, who is preparing for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, came out as gay in a May 25 interview with the Spanish language publication, Shangay.

After the Russian "gay propaganda" controversy that shrouded the glory of the 2014 Winter Olympics, it's inspiring to see so many athletes living their authentic lives.
