Jay Z Sued For Alleged 'Run This Town' Sample

Jay Z Sued For Hit Song

New York record label TufAmerica Inc. is probably not welcome in Roc Nation. As the New York Daily News reports, the company has filed a lawsuit against Jay Z, alleging that the rap icon used a sample from "Hook & Sling Part 1," a 1969 song by Eddie Bo, without permission. TufAmerica Inc. owns the rights to Bo's track.

If this kind of legal action by TufAmerica Inc. sounds familiar, that's because it is familiar: The company sued Kanye West in September of 2012 for sampling "Hook & Sling Part 1" on two tracks from "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy." At that time, the label claimed that Roc-A-Fella Records had repaid a license fee of $62,500 to use the song, but "failed and refused to enter into written license agreements that accounted for their multiple other uses of ['Hook and Sling']."
