American Long Jumper Dedicates Gold Win To His Mother With Alzheimer's Disease

Team USA long jumper Jeff Henderson promised his mother, who has Alzheimer’s disease, that he would bring home Olympic gold.

He earned the top spot on the podium Saturday by jumping 1 centimeter farther than South Africa’s Luvo Manyonga, who took home silver. According to NBC, Henderson’s 8.38-meter jump was a season best. After that, he made sure to follow up on his promise.

After winning gold, he returned to Arkansas on Wednesday to a crowd of cheering fans and supporters, and later posted a touching photo on Instagram with the caption, “Mom this is for you.”
