Jeffrey Wright Talks 'Catching Fire': It's 'Thrilling' With 'All The Bells And Whistles' (VIDEO)

'Hunger Games' Star Hopes He Doesn't Screw Up New Movie

Jeffrey Wright has one goal for his part in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."

"I hope [I'm] not screwing it up," the actor told HuffPost Live's Marc Lamont Hill.

During an interview about his role on the latest season of "Boardwalk Empire," Wright discussed his part in the next "Hunger Games" film. He plays Beetee, a former winner of the Hunger Games with a talent for using electronic equipment, who helps Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) through the competition against a host of past Games champions.

Wright said he's proud to be part of a film that mixes the wow factor of huge blockbusters with thoughtful themes that will please readers of the "Hunger Games" novels by Suzanne Collins.

"It's an epic, epic story," Wright said. "It does have all the bells and whistles. It's big-budget stuff. But at the same time there are interesting themes being addressed, particularly for younger audiences."

The Golden Globe-winning actor also talked about a visit to Comic Con, where he met the rabid fans of the "Hunger Games" franchise. What impressed him most, he said, was that each of them had very specific, personal connections to the story that went beyond the superficial action elements.

"That's exciting. If you can have big-budget, thrilling filmmaking, and you can also have elements that touch people in very honest ways, I'm all for it," he said.
