Jeni's Ice Cream In Chicago: Shop Marking Debut With Free Ice Cream Party Friday

Jeni's Ice Cream Making Its Chicago Debut This Week

Do you like free ice cream? What about free grass-grazed, gourmet ice cream that's frequently named among the nation's best?

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, an Ohio-based ice cream company, will mark the opening of their first-ever Chicago scoop shop at 3404 N. Southport Ave. on Friday with an open-to-the-public preview party featuring gratis ice cream, hosted by none other than Jeni Britton Bauer, the James Beard Award-winning cookbook author who is the company's namesake.

The event will be held from 7-10 p.m. and the first 50 people at the preview party will also receive a poster commemorating the shop's opening.

The shop, which Bauer previously told Chicago magazine will have some special flavors including a whole-milk tamarind yogurt as a nod to Rick Bayless in addition to its regular favorites, will then open at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Ahead of their opening, Jeni's has already had their pints available at certain shops around town (including Plum Market, Dill Pickle, Fox & Obel, Provenance and Whole Foods) and has also been spotted at A.V. Fest/Hideout Block Party, Pitchfork and other events.

Besides its new Chicago shop, Jeni's also has 11 locations in Ohio and two in Nashville, Tenn.
