Jennifer Carpenter has a simple wish for the end of "Dexter": She wants Debra Morgan, her "Dexter" character, to die.
"I want the character to die," Carpenter told Entertainment Weekly about Debra Morgan, the "Dexter" character she's played since the show's beginning. "Every actor has to shed their character, shake the ghost off. For my own well-being, I need this story to have an ending."
Showtime announced "Dexter" was coming to an end this year with its eighth season debuting in late June 2013.
"'Dexter' is a landmark franchise for our network, and we cannot wait to unveil the conclusion of this series, as we know it, to the millions of passionate fans who have supported the show season after season," David Nevins, president of entertainment at Showtime Networks Inc., said in a statement. "We'd like to thank Michael, Jennifer, and 'Dexter's' indomitable cast, executive producers, writers and crew for eight incredible seasons."
While Carpenter wants her character to die, Nevins said he wouldn't rule out a spinoff focused on Debra Morgan.
Season 7 of "Dexter" ended with Carpenter's character killing LaGuerta. The new season kicks off with Deb in a very dark place.
