Jennifer Lawrence's Parents -- Not To Mention Kate Hudson's -- Prove Moms And Dads Are The Same Everywhere

Why Moms And Dads Are The Same Everywhere

Celebrity parents and parents of celebrities prove once again that they are just like the rest of us when it comes to their children.

Just ask Jennifer Lawrence. A touching video has emerged showing the 22-year-old actress' parents gushing about their daughter's success at Sunday's 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, causing the "Hunger Games" star to cover her face and exclaim, "Mom, stop crying! God, this is embarrassing!" Lawrence, who won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for "Silver Linings Playbook," had brought her Kentucky-based parents, Karen and Gary, to the glittery affair.

"Entertainment Tonight" caught up with the leading lady and her family backstage at the Shrine Auditorium in L.A. Mom and dad said they couldn't have been more proud, with Gary Lawrence saying, "I feel like I've got the Secretariat in the Derby." (You can watch her parents' praises in the video above.)

Lawrence, once a spunky cheerleader, has said her mom and dad were the polar opposites of the typical stage parents, saying they did "everything in their power to keep [stardom] from happening." Obviously, though, her parents are pretty happy today, with an emotional Karen Lawrence telling reporters that "I'm so proud because she's remained who she is throughout this whole process and it hasn't changed her. That's what I'm proud of."

In a separate incident over the weekend, Kate Hudson's famous mom Goldie Hawn was spotted Saturday outside an Ann Taylor storefront display on the streets of a blustery New York City snapping a photo of long-time partner Kurt Russell in front of a giant poster of her daughter. Hudson has appeared in two ad campaigns for the womenswear retailer and will be doing a third this spring. While Hudson, 33, was decked out in a stunning Ann Taylor evening gown in the poster, Hawn was donning a puffy black jacket, hat and boots. Even so, Hawn -- now 67 -- looked lovely.

Russell, 61, has been in Hawn's life for 30 years and the trio always have been close.

Even the leader of the free world, Barack Obama, has been known to embarrass his two daughters, Sasha and Malia. Once, when Malia's friend came over, President Obama shook the girl's hand to say hello, only to be told by Malia later that "You really don't shake kids' hands that much ... you just wave or say hi."
