Is Simon Cowell saving a seat at the "X Factor" judges' panel for Jennifer Love Hewitt?
With two open spots from the departures of Britney Spears and L.A. Reid, Cowell is on the hunt for some new talent. Us Weekly reported Hewitt is being considered for a spot on the "X Factor" for Season 3.
"Simon is very interested," a source told the magazine.
Whether or not she has what it takes to replace the likes of pop superstar Spears or record exec Reid is up for debate -- and "X Factor" is not biting just yet.
"This is all just speculation," a representative for the show told The Huffington Post. "No decisions have been made about the panel. Simon and Demi are the only judges confirmed on the panel so far."
The 34-year-old actress -- best known for roles in 90s hits such as "Party of Five" and "Can't Hardly Wait" -- might seem an unlikely choice, but she did once have a singing career.
Hewitt became a teenage pop star in Japan when she released her first album in 1992. In 1999, she had her first charting single, "How Do I Deal," for the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" soundtrack. She followed that up with the release of her fourth studio album, "BareNaked," in 2002, which landed on the Billboard Top 200 chart.
Hewitt has also been stretching her vocal cords in recent episode of her Lifetime series, "The Client List."
Alas, Hewitt might be better suited as an "X Factor" cohost. Since Khloe Kardashian Odom will not return next season there is an open spot. However, show honchos could wind up making Mario Lopez the solo host.
Meanwhile, singer Kelly Rowland's name has also been thrown into the judges' ring. The former Destiny's Child member certainly has the musical clout to back it up, and she even got experience judging while on the "X Factor" U.K.
"Kelly knows 'The X Factor,' she's aware of what it takes to be a judge and she's also outspoken," a source told the Daily Mail. "Simon has always remained a fan of Kelly's and she's most definitely in the mix to join the judging panel on 'X Factor' USA."
