Back in January, Jerry Rice stepped into the thick of the Deflategate controversy when he declared the New England Patriots would deserve an "asterisk" on their Super Bowl win if they triumphed against the Seattle Seahawks (which they eventually did).
Rice, who has since walked back his statements a bit via Twitter, said during a HuffPost Live interview on Thursday that he's rethought his comments on the scandal.
"Maybe I was a little too critical when I spoke out," Rice said. "Maybe I shouldn't have said they cheated. I just felt that it may have gave them a little bit of an advantage. Maybe I shouldn't have worded it that way. But you can't take anything away from what they have accomplished."
Rice also lauded Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's talents and said he hopes to see the legal quarrel settled soon.
"I would love to catch a football from him. I think he's one of the top quarterbacks," Rice told host Zerlina Maxwell. "Hopefully they can get this resolved so everybody can go back to football and start enjoying that."
