Jim Boeheim: Andy Katz Of ESPN Is An 'Idiot,' 'Disloyal' (VIDEO)

Jim Boeheim Lashes Out At ESPN Reporter

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim seemed to be more upset with ESPN reporter Andy Katz on Wednesday night than his team's loss to UConn.

During Boeheim's postgame remarks after the No. 6 Orange lost its final regular-season Big East meeting against the Huskies, Katz asked him a question about the longtime rivalry. But Boeheim refused to answer Katz's question and then lashed out at him.

"I'll answer anyone's question but yours because you're an idiot and really a disloyal person. And a few other things I can add, but I'm not gonna go there," said Boeheim. He then answered a similar question from a different reporter.

According to WAER Sports, Katz responded in the press room.

Peter Schrager of FoxSports.com tweeted that Boeheim may have been annoyed with Katz for sharing off-the-record information about Syracuse forward James Southerland. Southerland was declared ineligible for academic reasons in January before Syracuse's game against Villanova. He missed six games before being declared eligible to play again this past weekend.

Yahoo Sports! blog "The Dagger"
notes that Boeheim may still have been angry with Katz for a story he wrote in November 2011 about how he runs the program and his relationship with former assistant coach Bernie Fine, who was accused of sexual abuse.

UPDATE: Jason McIntyre of The Big Lead spoke with Katz about the incident.

"I had assumed he was not happy with my part of the Bernie Fine coverage,” Katz told The Big Lead. "I covered his reaction. I wasn’t the investigative journalist on the story. After that, I knew he wasn’t taking my calls for benign stories, and then in March when we talked to every coach in the NCAA Tournament, he was the only one who wouldn’t speak to me."
