Jim Carrey's Pro-Gun Control Stance Angers Conservatives

'The Most Pathetic Tool On The Face Of The Earth'

Jim Carrey made waves this week when he spoke out in favor of gun control - and against those who oppose it - in a big way. The comedian released a music video on Funny or Die called "Cold Dead Hand," which mocked the late actor and former NRA president, Charlton Heston.

In the promotion of the video, Carrey took it a step further, calling those who opposed gun control "heartless motherf--kers unwilling to bend for the safety of our kids."

While Carrey was celebrated for his stance by some -- MSNBC called the video "admittedly catchy" -- he is now the subject of major backlash from conservative groups and media.

Unsurprisingly, Fox News took issue with Carrey's video, beginning a segment on Carrey by asking if the actor is getting "dumber and dumber" before saying he has "gone off the rails." Network personality Greg Gutfeld was visibly angry, saying, "He is probably the most pathetic tool on the face of the earth and I hope his career is dead and I hope he ends up sleeping in a car." Gutfeld continued his tirade against Carrey, saying, "This video made me want to go out and buy a gun. He thinks this is biting satire going after rural America and a dead man... He's a dirty, stinking coward... He's such a pathetic, sad, little freak. He's a gibbering mess. He's a modern bigot."

THR reports that talk show host Larry Elder also took issue with Carrey's video. Elder reportedly criticized Carrey for his words against Heston, explaining that Heston's history as a civil rights activist was far more risky to his career than Carrey's recent activism on guns is to his own. Elder insinuated that Carrey's polarizing stance may negatively impact the ticket sales of Carrey's current film, "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone." Unfortunately for both Carrey and Elder, "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" was already bombing before Carrey sent out his Funny or Die video.

In light of the backlash, Carrey tweeted, "I'd like to respond to all the conservative bundits out there personally but I'm far too busy NOT stumping for the gun companies!"
