Jim Harbaugh's Wife: Throw Away The Pants, You Look Like ‘Rainman'

As the San Francisco 49ers prepare for their third consecutive NFC Championship Game this Sunday, it’s clear that head coach Jim Harbaugh has done a lot of things right. But when it comes to his staple wardrobe -- a Steve Jobs-style mock turtleneck tucked into belted, oversized, pleated khakis -- even his closest allies say it’s a bad call.

In perhaps the most hilarious radio show call-in ever, Harbaugh’s wife Sarah spoke with 99.7 FM's Fernando & Greg -- a popular gay radio duo and the hosts of an eponymous morning show. She had one thing to say about her husband’s wardrobe: Don’t blame me.

“Not very many things make me want to call into a radio station,” said Sarah. “But I will not take the blame for his outfit.”

She recounted her frustration at her foiled attempts to get rid of her husband’s infamous khakis.

“I’ve thrown them away many o’ times. I’ve asked him please! Pleats are gone! Wear the flat fronts. He’s got a flattering body!” she said, drawing howls of laughter from the station crew. “I threw them out and when he went to the combine he found a Walmart. They were $8. $8! He pulls them up to the middle of his stomach. I said 'you're aging yourself 50 years and you look like ‘Rainman.’’”

You tell ‘em, girl!

Though she refused to call it “superstition,” Sarah hinted that her husband’s outfit is something that can’t be altered in the postseason.

“I know [he] can’t change his outfit at this point in his career, just like he can’t get a new car," she explained. "He won’t make a change that could change other things.”

Fortunately, there may be hope: When asked whether Harbaugh might consider a “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”-style makeover by Fernando & Greg, Sarah said he would be open to it.

“He would be so open to it and I’ll tell you why,” she said. “I said 'next year, will you please let me dress you or someone else dress you?' And he agreed to that.”

Just in case anyone doubts Sarah's claim, a Twitter user recently snapped a photo of Harbaugh at Walmart buying -- what else -- khakis.
