Dear Jimmy Fallon, Thank You for Making Jokes About One Direction

Maybe you're secretly a Directioner or maybe you just love making jokes about them, but either way, your 1D jokes are. These are my faves.

Dear Jimmy Fallon,

I love One Direction. I love you. But I also love when you make jokes about One Direction.

This past summer, you did a lot of jokes about the British-Irish boy band (composed of Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan) on your show, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. For some reason, I've been able to predict most of the jokes before you do them... I must have a Jimmy Fallon-One Direction fan radar or something.

It all began when you would joke around at the beginning of the show about how the main purpose of your popular comedy album which came out this past June, Blow Your Pants Off, was to beat out One Direction's debut album, Up All Night, in the charts. The latter album made history by being the first by a British group to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 when it was released back in March.

Then, the jokes kept coming. As I'm both a Directioner and a longtime fan of yours, I love that you take the most popular group in the world right now and successfully weave them into your show with hilariousness. Furthermore, it speaks volumes about how you always stay at the forefront of what's happening in music and in pop culture at the moment.

Maybe you're secretly a Directioner or maybe you just love making jokes about them, but either way, your 1D jokes are hilarious. These are my faves:

1. Late Night Hashtags

During one show, for the very funny segment "Late Night Hashtags," you made the hashtag #MyCampaignPromise and started it off with one of your own: "I promise to make One Direction go in two, possibly three, directions."

Then for another show, you mentioned 1D for the hashtag #MyDumbSuperstition and it was great.

2. Night News Now

On your show's hilarious news segment, "Night News Now, " which your show's website coincidentally states is "like the One Direction of news," you reported about a late phase of puberty that Harry, Liam, Zayn, Louis, and Niall experienced during a concert. It was amazing and so funny.

3. Ew With Channing Tatum

You, as Sara (without an 'h' because those are ew), and Tatum, as one of her BFFs Susie, discussed the latest hip-hop dance moves, why flip-flops and phone books are ew (the latter has "too many nemmes"), and why Susie is taking her dad to the One Direction concert instead of bestie Sara. It's gonna be a lot of ewwwww. I just love this sketch so much.

4. Russell Brand Reads US Weekly (Olympics Edition)

During the London Olympics this past summer, you stated during this sketch, as British comedian Russell Brand, that American gold-medal swimmer Nathan Adrian is the "most athletic member of One Direction." I love both Nathan Adrian and One Direction, so this was absolutely fantastic. Please feel free to watch that again (just in case doing the sketch wasn't enough) here.

5. Black Simon and Garfunkel

The Roots' ?uestlove and Kirk as Black Simon and Garfunkel performed the popular One Direction hit "What Makes You Beautiful." Enough said.

6. Monologue -- September 7, 2012

Your monologue is always hilarious, no question. During this one, you talked about how One Direction won more awards than "Grandpa" Justin Bieber at the previous night's MTV VMAs... and what winning three VMAs for the 1D guys equated to in their lives. Like I said, hilarious.

7. Monologue - October 12, 2012

With the presidential election less than a week away, this joke just makes sense for me to mention. It was important for you to somehow fuse the most popular group in the world right now with politics and what better than highlighting the "One Thing" that Vice President Joe Biden and Representative Paul Ryan had agreed on during the vice presidential debate the night before?

Thank you Jimmy Fallon for making jokes about One Direction on your show. They're hilarious and, as both a Directioner and a longtime fan of yours, I appreciate them wholeheartedly and I hope you continue doing them in the future.

Pretty pretty please with a cherry on top have Harry, Liam, Zayn, Louis, and Niall on your show when they come to New York City this month or when they're in New York City again in December... and please save a seat in the audience or in the "Band Bench" for me if you do have them on your show in the future.

Sincerely,
Maureen
