Jimmy Kimmel Fights Back Tears Over Cecil The Lion's Death

Cecil is finally getting justice.

Cecil the Lion, a famous and local favorite in Zimbabwe, suffered a brutal death at the hands of a trophy hunter earlier this month, but now he's finally getting justice.

News of the Cecil's agonizing and reportedly illegal death has caused outrage all across the Internet, and on Tuesday Jimmy Kimmel took some time to publicly shame the Minnesota dentist responsible with a scathing monologue:

Let's say we accept at face value that he thought it was legal and properly handled and didn't know the lion had a tracking collar, was a local favorite -- the big question is why are you shooting a lion in the first place? I mean, I'm honestly curious to know why a human being would feel compelled to do that. How is that fun? Is it that difficult for you to get an erection that you need to kill things?

Kimmel showed the guy's picture and even identified him by name before eventually breaking down and fighting back tears.

Did the talk show host's passionate speech go a little too far? Perhaps. But Cecil's cubs, which reportedly will likely be killed by the new lion in the hierarchy, probably don't think so.

"Jimmy Kimmel Live!" airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.
