Take A Sneak Peek At A Pioneering Female Performance Artist Joan Jonas On PBS

If you're a fan of the "Art21" series, PBS's gem of a program dedicated to art in the 21st century, we have a treat for you. Over the next few months, we'll be previewing clips from the series, giving a sneak peek into the experiences of artists like Trevor Paglen, Graciela Iturbide, Wolfgang Laib and the female pioneer of video and performance art -- Joan Jonas.

To kick off our celebration of the series' seventh season -- set to debut on October 24, 2014 -- we have a short video of Ms. Jonas explaining a reconfigured version of her 1969 performance "Mirror Piece I." Watch the glory of the American artist above.

“I’m aware of what could be read into things," Jonas remarks in the season 7 episode "Fiction."

"I don’t like to talk about the symbolism, it puts too much meaning into it. I like it to be what it is in a very concrete way.”
