Joanna Coles: 'Cosmo' Will Cover More Politics

If editor-in-chief Joanna Coles has her way, Cosmo will soon be known for more than sometimes questionable sex advice.

Politico reports that Coles made the following comments at a dinner in her honor this week:

“I really want Cosmo as a magazine to be more involved in political issues. We’re the biggest read magazine -- literally -- in the world and I think it’s very important that we stay on top of political issues that impact young women: Health care, gun violence, the wage gap, how do we close it. These are all issues that I’m personally passionate about.”

Will this mean more meaty features from Cosmo? We hope so, especially in the aftermath of recent conversations about whether women's magazines and female editors publish "serious" journalism. Cosmo doesn't have to abandon the content that has made it such a commercially successful brand, but under Coles it may prove that there is room in women's magazines for high and low.
