Jodi Arias Testimony: Defense Expected To Redirect Arias' Testimony (LIVE UPDATES)

JODI ARIAS LIVE BLOG: Defense Expected To Redirect Arias' Testimony About The Killing

Arizona defense attorney Kurt Nurmi is expected to redirect Jodi Arias testimony Monday about statements made during last weeks cross-examination by prosecutor Juan Martinez.

The veteran prosecutor aimed to prove that Arias' brutal attack on Alexander inside his Mesa home on June 4, 2008 was first-degree murder and not self-defense.

Martinez first questioned Arias about the slaying on Thursday, the 13th day on the witness stand for Arias and fifth day of cross-examination. The 32-year-old photographer testified that she shot and stabbed Alexander in fear for her own safety when he violently attacker her after she dropped his camera.

"I dropped it ... It landed on the mat ... and sort of did a little double bounce on the tile," Arias said. "He said that I'm a f--king idiot."

Arias testified that Alexander was so upset that he body-slammed her to the bathroom floor. She said she got up, ran to a walk-in closet and grabbed a .25-caliber pistol off a shelf.

"You chose to escalate this didn’t you," Martinez asked.

"No … I was trying to deescalate it," Arias replied.

Arias said she ran to the bathroom with the gun and held it out with both hands as Alexander charged her like a "linebacker."

"He's lunging at you and he's almost on you and the gun goes off, right?" Martinez asked.

"Something like that," Arias replied.

Arias said she has no memory of stabbing Alexander 27 times or cutting his throat from ear to ear.

Whether Arias meant to kill Alexander is crucial to the trial, because the prosecution is seeking the death penalty.

The defense is expected to redirect Arias testimony when court resumes at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time.
