Joe Manchin Launching NRA Response Ad

Manchin Hitting Back Against NRA

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) will air a TV ad in response to the National Rifle Association's ad buy against him, Politico reports.

The NRA launched a $100,000 buy against Manchin last week. Manchin aide Jonathan Kott told Politico that Manchin's ad will at least match the NRA's ad buy, and will go up later this week.

Manchin, who previously earned an A rating from the NRA, introduced a bipartisan bill with Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) that aimed to expand background checks to gun shows and Internet sales. The bill failed in the Senate in April.

"Now, Manchin is working with President Obama and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Concerned? You should be," the narrator says in the NRA ad. "Tell Sen. Manchin to honor his commitment to the Second Amendment and reject the Obama-Bloomberg gun control agenda."

Despite the ad war, Manchin isn't up for reelection until 2016. However, groups for and against gun control measures have launched ads in favor of or against a number of senators already, including Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.).
