Los Angeles prosecutors are charging Simpson with two counts of drunken driving after his arrest earlier this month. City attorney's spokesman Frank Mateljan said Wednesday that 54-year-old Joe Simpson faces a maximum sentence of 6 months in jail, 36 months of probation and a $1,000 fine. He was arrested Aug. 4 after authorities say he registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 percent or above at a DUI checkpoint in the Sherman Oaks area. (AP Photo/Dan Steinberg, file)

Joe Simpson is shooting down the gay rumors that have circulated in the past month. Though no official statement was given, TMZ reports that the 54-year-old father of Jessica Simpson has told family and friends the salacious stories suggesting that the former pastor had come out as a gay man are "ridiculous" and untrue. On "Access Hollywood" Monday, host Billy Bush said he had been emailing back and forth with Simpson and that he had also denied the rumors.

In October, a RadarOnline story linked Simpson to 21-year-old aspiring model Bryce Chandler Hill, alleging that Simpson's affair with the young man had been the final cleaver in his marriage to Tina Simpson. Hill appeared to deny the story on his Twitter, when he wrote on Oct. 26, "Yes, I've read the story....it's simply NOT TRUE."

On Oct. 24, it was announced that Simpson had split from Tina Simpson, 52, his wife of 34 years. A rep for the family confirmed that Tina had filed for divorce, telling People: "It is an amicable split and there is no third party involved. Any other related allegations are completely false. The family appreciates your respect for their privacy at this time."
