The man who put forth during the election as the voice of average Republicans took some serious shots at the individual actually tasked with leading the party this past week.
In a little reported appearance at a conservative rally in Milwaukee, Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, aka "Joe the Plumber," whacked Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele for trying to hip-hopify conservatism.
"Unfortunately, we have a chairman up there who wants to redefine conservatism; he wants to make it hip hop, put it in a new package and sell it," Wurzelbacher said. "You can't sell principles; either you have them or you don't." The comments were met with applause from most of the 800 in attendance.
The remarks, first reported by WisPolitics.com, join a long chain of criticism about the recently elected RNC Chair. Several members of the committee itself have offered similar sentiments about Steele's political style, with one even calling on him to step down from his post.
That Joe the Plumber is knocking Steele to vocal cheers is a testament to just how divided Republicans are about the future of the party. That he is giving red-meat speeches to crowds of Republicans months after his relevancy should have died is a emblematic of the void of leadership in the GOP.
