John Legend Joins 'Duets' On ABC; Lionel Richie No Longer Attached

John Legend Replaces Lionel Richie On 'Duets'

The "Duets" (premieres Thursday, May 24 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC) competition is getting even more star-studded.

John Legend is joining the ABC music series that Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke are already attached to, which centers on the search for the ultimate “Duet” partner. Lionel Richie was previously attached to the series as well, but is no longer mentioned in press materials.

UPDATE: Richie's rep told TheInsider.com that he pulled out of the show due to personal scheduling conflicts.

“I'm thrilled to be part of 'Duets' and I'm looking forward to finding an undiscovered gem out there," Legend said in a statement. "This is going be a lot of fun."

Legend, Clarkson, Nettles and Thicke will each set out across the U.S. to find talent worthy of singing with them. Then, the Superstars (Legend, Clarkson, Nettles and Thicke) will take the stage with their partners each week and perform in front of a live studio audience.

Only one duet will win and that Superstar's partner will receive a recording contract with Hollywood Records.

The two-hour premiere of "Duets" airs Thursday, May 24 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
