Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) is more than a civil rights icon. He's an all-around fun guy.
The congressman was spotted Thursday on Capitol Hill getting cozy with some adorable puppies from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Lewis is no stranger to showing the public his softer, cool-dude side.
Earlier this month, he arrived at San Diego's Comic-Con wearing a trenchcoat and backpack -- a nod to the now-iconic outfit he wore when participating in 1965's Selma march -- and hung out with some kids.
The long-serving representative spoke to millennials in 2012 using one of the languages they know best: viral videos. In an attempt to get young people to the polls, Lewis joined members of an Atlanta-based hip-hop dance group to perform a politics-themed rendition of “Gangnam Style.”
Last year, one of Lewis' aides posted a video to YouTube showing him jamming to Pharrell Williams’ “Happy.” The congressman can even be heard saying, “This is my song!” Ours too, Congressman. Ours, too.
In an undated video from an Atlanta news station, Lewis can be seen dancing to “We Are Family” at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race. If you haven't noticed by now, the guy loves to dance.
Two years ago, the representative published the first part of a three-installment memoir about his work in the fight for civil and human rights -- in comic book form. He co-wrote the graphic novel, which was drawn by illustrator Nate Powell, with aide Andrew Aydin. The second awesome volume was released earlier this year.
