John McCain: 'I Guarantee' Government Won't Shut Down Again

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said he can "guarantee" the government won't shut down again.

During an interview on CNN's "New Day," McCain said "people have been too traumatized" by the shutdown, and the "damage" done would prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

"We may still have some gridlock," McCain said. "Maybe we'll have continuing resolutions that -- we're not going to shut down the government again. I guarantee it."

McCain told CNN President Barack Obama "won" the battle over the shutdown, which was sparked by Republicans seeking to defund Obamacare.

McCain made similar comments about the damage of the shutdown in an interview with Bloomberg Government’s “Capitol Gains," which will air Friday.

"Back in 1995, we tried this experiment before. The American people reacted in a totally negative fashion, so we didn't do it again until we lost all corporate memory, except for a few of us old geezers," McCain said.

McCain said this shutdown "was even worse than '95," saying "the impact was more devastating."
