President Obama's decision to try alleged 9/11 plotter Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other Guantanamo detainees in New York -- mere blocks from the World Trade Center site -- has created quite the stir in Washington.
While the terror trials have lead to the making of some interesting bedfellows in New York, with Mayor Bloomberg supporting Obama's decision and Democratic Governor Paterson questioning it, Washington has been largely split down the usual political lines.
Congressman John Shadegg (R-AZ) may have best represented the far-right viewpoint on the issue Monday night when he personally attacked Bloomberg, suggesting that the trial could lead to the kidnapping of the mayor's daughter:
I saw the Mayor of New York said today, "We're tough. We can do it." Well, Mayor, how are you going to feel when it's your daughter that's kidnapped at school by a terrorist? How are you going to feel when it's some clerk -- some innocent clerk of the court -- whose daughter or son is kidnapped? Or the judge's wife? Or the jailer's little brother or little sister? This is political correctness run amok.
