John Waters Talks About Contemporary Art (VIDEO)

WATCH: John Waters Talks Contemporary Art

Recently, director and artist John Waters sat down to talk about contemporary art, what makes a great painting, and his films with blog "Big Think." In the interview below, much of Waters' personality shows through, from funny to irreverent to just slightly weird, but we think it all adds to his unusual charm.

Waters has spent a lot of time thinking about aesthetics, off-kilter and otherwise, having mades such films as 1972's gross-out epic, "Pink Flamingos," and 1988's campy classic, "Hairspray." The latter film was adapted into a Tony winning musical in 2003 which was then turned into a hit movie-musical in 2007.

Watch Waters share his thoughts on art below--the knowing eye contacts alone are worth a viewing.
