TOP 5 FOR THURSDAY, MAY 31

1. Jon Langford at Iota
The Mekon, Waco Brother and more, Langford has been fine tuning his style of punk folk with a Scottish tinge for over 30 years. Whether solo or with a full band, the singer-songwriter knows how to tell a story during and between songs. 8:30 p.m., 21+, $15

2. St. Coletta's Annual Art Show and Sale at Microsoft
This is the sixth annual show and sale of art made by students at St. Coletta of Greater Washington, a non-profit, non-sectarian public charter school serving over 400 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. 5:30 p.m., all ages, prices vary

3. 14th Biennial Ikebana Show At Art League Gallery
Ikebana, the art of Japanese flower arranging, has over 300 schools of thought. This art show will not showcase all of those schools, but a small sample size will still be enjoyable. 6 p.m., all ages, no cover

4. Ugly Purple Sweater, Typefighter At Black Cat
Two of D.C.'s finest indie pop bands, this show doubles as a release party. Making it super ambitious, the bands are covering each other's material. 8 p.m., all ages, $8

5. "Let's Stay Together..." Live-Band Karaoke At Public Bar
Real life band Northeast Corridor will back up not-really singers at this Barack Obama fundraiser. Not the first and far from the last fundraising event for the 2012 Obama campaign, this one includes alcohol and singing. Maybe someone will decide to protest something. 7 p.m., 21+, $25
