Jonathan Banks loves the character of Mike Ehrmantraut so much that he's playing him again in the "Breaking Bad" spinoff "Better Call Saul," but he told HuffPost Live on Thursday that he wasn't always pleased with the way Mike was written in the original series.
When Banks and Michael McKean dropped by HuffPost Live to chat with host Ricky Camilleri about the spinoff, which premieres Feb. 8 on AMC, Banks discussed the way actors and writers can sometimes develop differing opinions of what characters will and won't do.
"[The writers] are my friends and I trust them completely. Do I disagree with them at times? I do," Banks said. "You know, 'Mike wouldn't do that.' And they go, 'Yeah, Mike would do that.' And I say, 'No, Mike wouldn't do that.'"
One of those moments came during "Say My Name," Banks' final episode in the series, when Mike abandons his beloved granddaughter in a park without saying goodbye. The actor cited that scene as one instance of a time he disagreed with the choices Mike made.
"There were things leading up to Mike's death that I'm going, 'Mike's not that fucking stupid,'" Banks said. "But anyway, it's still a great last show for me."
