Joplin Planned Parenthood Struck By Second Arson Attempt

Second Arson Attempt On Planned Parenthood Clinic

Authorities in Joplin, Mo., have reported a second arson attempt in less than a week at the city's Planned Parenthood clinic, according to the Associated Press.

The first attempt occurred the night of Wednesday, Oct. 2, when someone reportedly tried to ignite bags filled with incendiary substances before hurling them onto Joplin Planned Parenthood's roof. Wednesday's incident did not start a fire, but an arson attempt on the night of Friday, Oct. 4, caused minor damage, AP reports.

Security cameras at the scene captured a suspect in a hooded sweatshirt or jacket thrusting bags onto Planned Parenthood's roof on both nights. Police say the suspect can be seen lighting the bag in footage from Friday night.

Joplin police are so far unable to determine whether the same person was responsible for both events. City and state fire marshals, along with the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are assisting Joplin police in investigating the incidents.
