A Depressingly Large Number Of People Want Jose Antonio Vargas Deported

Some Of The Nastiest Responses To Jose Antonio Vargas Being Detained

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and immigration activist Jose Antonio Vargas was detained Tuesday by border patrol agents in McAllen, Texas. Vargas, who has long been public about his undocumented status, has been in the country since he was a young boy.

Supporters have launched a petition to free Vargas, a former HuffPost editor. But underlining the difficulty Congress will have passing comprehensive immigration reform that creates a pathway to citizenship for folks like Vargas, a strong contingent of angry Twitter users celebrated his detention under the hashtag #DeportJose or directly to @RyanGrim, a HuffPost reporter who published a photo of Vargas in handcuffs.
