He could’ve considered this one heck of a surge fare.
When Jose Figueroa, Chicago-based Uber driver, found a wallet in the back seat of his car packed with $3,000 in cash, he knew he had to return it to its rightful owner.
“I mean there was temptation. I’ll be honest with you. But me being a Christian, I couldn’t. I wanted to make sure I sleep good, so that’s what I did. I returned the money and the wallet,” Figueroa told ABC11.
Thankfully there was a photo of the passenger, so Figueroa knew who the wallet belonged to, Fox 32 reports.
He had just picked up the owner of the wallet from Chicago O-Hare International Airport and the gregarious Figueroa used his gift of gab to find out a few things about his customer.
“He had just come from Ukraine, he sold his business and he was coming to the United States to look for work,” Figueroa told WGN-TV.
According to Uber it uses its own services to facilitate communication between drivers and riders, or as an Uber representative told Newsweek, a rider’s number is anonymous to an Uber driver.
So Figueroa couldn’t just call or text the man.
Instead he drove back to the apartment building where he dropped him off and started ringing random doorbells looking for the man.
Eventually Figueroa found the man’s sister.
“The sister opens the door and I show the picture and she opens up and, she sees me like a guardian angel, she smiles, she hugs me, she opens the door and I see her brother sitting down at the table eating dinner,” Figueroa told Fox32.
The man, Volodymyr Kytsknuik, gave Figueroa $100 for all his help — a big tip for a big-hearted man.
