Joy Behar Reveals She Was Once Briefly Fired From 'The View' (VIDEO)

On "The Tonight Show," Joy Behar revealed that she was actually fired from "The View." Okay, so that wasn't what went down behind her decision to leave the show this past August. That time, she left on her own terms. Behar was talking about an earlier occurrence back in 2006, when Rosie O'Donnell was poised to join the show.

At the time, O'Donnell coming onto the show was a big secret that Barbara Walters was going to announce at the Emmys. But then Behar let it slip while talking to "Entertainment Tonight" at an Emmys gifting suite, and Walters was none too pleased.

“You ever feel like you’re going to have a heart attack?” Behar asked, recalling the phone call she received from Walters. According to Behar, Walters said, "Hello, Joy? It’s Barbara. And I just want you to know I’m not renewing your contract."

Unfortunately, Jay Leno cut Behar off before she could explain how she got back into Walters' good graces. Obviously she did, as Behar continued on the show for the next seven years. Next year, Walters herself will be joining Behar in the post-"The View" world. The 83-year-old broadcast legend announced that she'll be retiring from television in 2014. Walters will be the last of the original co-hosts to leave the show.

As of now, her departure will leave only Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy at the table. Longtime co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck also left the show this year to work on Fox News. At that point, "The View" will have two chairs to fill, so start your speculation now.

"The View" airs every weekday at 11 a.m. ET on ABC, while "The Tonight Show" airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
