Joy Bryant's New Clothing Line Is Not What You'd Expect But It's Still Pretty Cute

Joy Bryant Launches Unexpected Clothing Line

Joy Bryant is adding her name to a growing list of models getting into the fashion design game. While we're still flipping over the fact that supermodel Naomi Campbell is launching a collection, we now have Ms. Bryant's offerings to swoon over.

Basic Terrain, Joy's joint venture with husband David Pope, is truly a labor a love and definitely not your average ready-to-wear threads. A far cry from the glamorous red carpet and runway designs that we're used to seeing the 39-year-old model/actress don, Byrant's collection is inspired by her love for the outdoors.

“Our idol brands are Patagonia, Capital and Best Made Co. If you took those three and put them in a blender, that’s Basic Terrain,” Bryant told WWD.

This spring, the company is rolling out a few feminine pieces like a skirt and top, but the pre-fall capsule collection is mostly made up of slouchy, wrap-front cotton pants in a variety of colors. And as for fall, we can expect more performance and sportswear separates in fleece, leather, wool and techno fabrics.

While Basic Terrain is a small operation at the moment, Bryant is hoping that her star power will help get more eyes on the label and bodies in the clothes.

“It’s great if because of my exposure and my work, that brings attention to it, because we are making things and we want people to buy them," Bryant said. "But I never looked at this like a celebrity line. I think the product speaks for itself.”

Head over to WWD to read more about Joy's collection and here's a look a some of the model's designs:
