Jozy Altidore finally bagged his first English Premier League goal for Sunderland, scoring the first in his team's eventual 4-3 loss to Chelsea at the Stadium of Light.

The goal ended a barren run for the American striker, who scored in his 12th league appearance of the season. Altidore had previously scored his only goal with Sunderland in a Capital One Cup win over MK Dons in August.

Altidore's goal was a quality strike, as the forward got on the end of a loose ball following a free kick and produced a lightning-quick swivel and finish in the box which left his defender standing still. Unfortunately for Sunderland, the team couldn't hold the lead, as a virtuoso performance from Eden Hazard condemned the home side to an eventual 4-3 defeat.

Sunderland remains rooted to the bottom of the EPL table after the loss, five points adrift of safety.

The goal was Altidore's second career EPL tally, as his first came in a 2-1 win for Hull City over Manchester City on Feb. 6, 2010. Following a 31-goal season in 2012-13 with AZ, the striker earned a transfer back to England's top flight.

The goal also capped off a great week for the 24-year-old, in which he was named the 2013 U.S. Soccer Male Athlete of the Year, the first time Altidore took home the award.
