Julia Louis-Dreyfus Speaks Out Against Keystone XL Pipeline

Seinfeld Star: Rejecting 'Brutally Stupid' Pipeline 'Is A No-Brainer, Right Mr. President?'

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, known for her role as Elaine on the popular sitcom "Seinfeld," has released a video urging President Obama to reject the permit for the proposed Keystone XL pipeline. She joins a number of other celebrities and activists who have spoken out against the pipeline, and will be participating in the November 6 Tar Sands Action protest at the White House.

In the video, Dreyfus recalls when Obama said "Let us be the generation that ends the tyranny of oil." But, she says, "Big Oil is still pretty much running the show." She says that by rejecting the pipeline, Obama has a chance to "make good on [his] word."

Louis-Dreyfus asks Obama, "Denying the permit for a brutally stupid, money-grab like the Keystone XL pipeline is a no-brainer, right Mr. President?"

Obama said in an interview this week that he will be making the decision on the pipeline's permit himself. The pipeline, which would travel from Western Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast, requires federal government approval to be built.

Critics argue that the pipeline could pose environmental risks for U.S. water supplies if it leaks, and that the oil it will carry is particularly polluting. Pipeline supporters counter that it will create jobs and ensure a stable source of North American petroleum.
