Through June, the transfer period has not been as exciting as the early signing of Memphis Depay suggested. There has been no signings since the early signing of the young Dutch winger, but many rumors have swirled around the club concerning David De Gea and Sergio Ramos. The two Spaniards have been linked with moves from their respective clubs and Manchester United has in fact made a transfer offer for Ramos for 40 million euros. David De Gea may be bound for Real Madrid, but there are many mitigating factors including the fact that Rafa Benitez, Real Madrid's manager, is happy with his current goalkeeping situation. David De Gea also is not keen on playing for Rafa Benitez and he has already returned to training in Manchester after vacationing in Madrid.

United's transfer window has been more active on the selling side, as they have already sold Nani to Fenerbahce for 3.5 million pounds and Robin Van Persie appears to be on his way to the Turkish side as well. Despite the expected sale of Van Persie, a replacement doesn't seem to be lined up. It is also rumored that Javier Chicharito Hernandez will be considered surplus and sold as well.

A new transfer deal is believed to be all but complete for Matteo Darmian with only a perfect medical to cement the deal. The Italian defender has recently come to the forefront of European football as a mainstay at right back in the Italian national team, including the team that defeated England in the 2014 World Cup group stage. He also provides a lot of versatility as he can play either midfield or defense, on top of that he does well playing on the left or the right. His signing would be shrewd by Louis Van Gaal, but would also most likely mean the end of Rafael Da Silva's stint at United.

Manchester United is also hot on the trail of central midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin. Southampton has no qualms about selling the French international, but only for the right price, a price that United may be unwilling to pay. Schneiderlin returned to Southampton for practice, which hopefully is a matter of circumstance and doesn't indicate that the deal is off the table.

Louis Van Gaal hasn't left his mark on this transfer window quite yet, but more signings like Darmian and Depay will do well to replenish the squad. With preseason beginning, Louis Van Gaal has promised that the United youth players will play a significant amount of time. Hopefully, Van Gaal can land the key signings needed to make a title challenge this season.
