Justice Stephen Breyer Has Georgetown Home Burglarized

Supreme Court Justice A Victim Of Crime

People apparently like to steal things from Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.

The Washington Post reported Thursday that Breyer's Georgetown house was burglarized earlier this month. The thieves reportedly broke a pane of glass near the front door, entered the residence and made off with a pair of $500 silver candlesticks and a 100-piece set of silver worth around $2,500. Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathleen Arberg told the Post that nobody had been home at the time of the incident, which a housekeeper reported on May 4.

The unfortunate ordeal is the second time Breyer, 73, has been a victim of theft this year, though this latest event was likely less frightening than the first. During a February trip to his family's vacation home on the Caribbean island of Nevis, Breyer, his wife and their house guests were robbed by a machete-wielding intruder who took about $1,000 in cash. Nobody was hurt in that incident.
