A minor league ice hockey player injured a referee when he attacked a competitor during a recent game in the 2013 World Ball Hockey Championships.

ECHL veteran Justin Pender, who also plays for the Canadian men's national ball hockey team, chased down an opponent from the Czech Republic after the side scored an empty net goal.

The 6'4", 218-pound defenseman attacked the player with a flurry of punches, prompting a Czech Republic netminder to shield his teammate from the blows. When an official attempted to intervene, he got caught between the players as they fell to the ground. The official was taken off the court on a stretcher, according to the Toronto Star.
