Like most of the gay community, Justin Sayre was thrilled about the Supreme Court's June 26 ruling on same-sex marriage. But the writer-performer finds wicked humor in another, related subject: same-sex divorce.
"That is going to be hideous, and I hope it's televised," he quips in his latest clip for HuffPost Gay Voices. "Could you imagine Judge Judy presiding over a gay divorce? I would die to see grown men crying about sconces at 11:30 in the day!"
Sayre's "International Order of Sodomites" (I.O.S.) gathers once a month for "The Meeting," honoring an artist or a cultural work that is iconic to the gay community.
The next installment of "The Meeting" hits Joe's Pub at the Public Theater in New York on Oct. 25, and will celebrate the 1998 film "Practical Magic" in honor of Halloween. The evening's special guests include Bridget Barkan, Isaac Oliver and Angela Di Carlo. Head here for details.
He'll head to the West Coast for a show at San Francisco's Oasis on Dec. 12.
In other news, "Sparkle & Circulate with Justin Sayre," the official I.O.S. podcast, has just released its latest episode, featuring an interview with Australian singer-songwriter Brendan Maclean.
